Detroit, MI- Joe Coleman won his fifth straight decision, pitching yet another masterpiece, and the Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals, 4-0, at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers (47-32) as a team also won their fifth straight game.
Coleman's streak started with a no-hitter on June 28 and has continued unabated. In this game, Coleman (12-7) pitched his 11th complete game, surrendering just four hits and one walk. He struck out six Royals hitters.
The Tigers smashed three solo home runs (Tom Haller, Dick McAuliffe and Ed Brinkman) off Royals starter Bruce Dal Canton.
McAuliffe had three hits, including his first homer of the season, which he slugged leading off the first inning for the Tigers. Haller's homer was also his first of the year.
The five-game winning streak marks the third time this season the Tigers have won at least five straight games. They also have winning streaks of six games and seven games.
