Arlington, TX- Mickey Lolich fired a five-hit shutout and the Tigers used a four-run fourth inning to easily defeat the Texas Rangers, 5-0, at Arlington Stadium.
The first four Tigers hitters reached base in the fourth inning, including Norm Cash, who walked to force in the first run. Two strikeouts later, Ed Brinkman singled and the ensuing error by third baseman Dave Nelson allowed two more runs to score. A wild pitch by Rangers starter Pete Broberg scored the fourth run of the inning.
The Tigers (52-34) have won five straight and 10 of their past 12 games. Lolich (16-6) lowered his ERA to 2.49 with his 17th complete game. He walked one and struck out nine.
Willie Horton had three singles for Detroit.
