Detroit, MI- The Tigers scored six runs in the eighth inning, breaking open a close game, and routed the Kansas City Royals, 10-3, at Tiger Stadium.
Willie Horton's bases loaded triple proved to be the big blow for the Tigers (46-32), winners of four straight, and seven of their last ten games.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead by the third inning, only to see the Royals battle back in the later innings. Amos Otis' two-run homer in the sixth inning made the score 4-3.
But the Tigers pounced on reliever Ted Abernathy in the eighth, raking him for six runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Horton had four RBI on the night as the Tigers rapped out 12 hits.
Mickey Lolich (14-6) pitched his 15th complete game to get the victory. Lolich walked two and struck out nine.
