Detroit, MI- Tom Timmermann pitched eight innings of four-hit ball and the Tigers supported him with more than enough offense in an easy 6-1 win over the Texas Rangers at Tiger Stadium.

Norm Cash hit a solo homer (12) for the Tigers (44-32), who improved to 6-1 vs. Texas this season.
Jim Northrup got the Tigers on the scoreboard early with a double in the first inning that plated Dick McAuliffe, who walked. Detroit added three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
McAuliffe and Aurelio Rodriguez, the nos. 1 and 2 hitters, each had two singles.
Timmermann aided his own cause with a tapper to the pitcher that scored a run in the fifth.
